'SELF-PORTRAIT is self-absorbed. The figure is myself. The figure is holding a puppet (also myself). The figure is posed, as if for a family photo. I chose this pose to resemble the paintings of ‘The Sistine Madonna’ by Rafael. The Christ child, of course, being the puppet. The figure wears the suit and tie, the picture of relaxed elegance, wistfully looking to the side. She is the celebrity saint. The puppet, is disheveled, with messy clothes, no tie, and is staring directly at the viewer with its beady eyes and mouth gaping. The puppet is the real version of her. Clutched like a child, mouth moving but not the one speaking. In SELF- PORTRAIT, the puppet will be sacrificed for her sins.'
