SUPPER (ORIGINAL)
ORIGINAL oil painting on canvas by Jodi Couper

'This painting composition was inspired by the composition of ‘The last Supper’ by Leonardo da Vinci. The subject is my ‘saint and celebrity’. Ordained in rosary beads, gothic makeup, feminine black lace, and silver studs to represent both faith and alternative fashion. In front of him is a classic fruit bowl still life, is contaminated by metallic piercings, resembling prince albert piercings and nipple bars. The background creates a halo of light I take something natural and classic and add unnatural manmade items for kink aesthetics, like the online celebrity culture of false beauty standards and sexualization. the subject is grinning, unnaturally, performing. The pomegranate, which typically represents the resurrection in Christian art, has been pierced by a blue fork, taking away its sanctity. SUPPER is queer, odd, sacrilegious, and surreal.'
